Summer at The Fells

Sunlight illuminates the historic old garden at The Fells and beckons the visitor to enter the cool shadows of the garden's mature growth.  Construction of the garden began in 1909 and shortly thereafter it was planted with perennials.  Beginning in the 1920's, the perennials were gradually transplanted to the newer rose terrace, perennial border or rock garden.  New plantings featured rhododendrons, azaleas, and the magnificent dogwood, Cornus kousa, which now enhance the timeless charm of this quiet woodland sanctuary.
