PALS: When The Fells was established in 1891, post-Civil War geographic and market realities conspired against New Hampshire's rural agricultural economy and culture. Farms were being abandoned and agricultural product output plummeted.

Edgewater Farm: In contrast, today's New Hampshire boasts many family farms, small new niche operations as well as those of more traditional description. Experience today's family farms through the eyes of talented New Hampshire artists Ron Brown, Grace Cooper, Heather Hansen, Lisa Jelleme, Vicki Koron and Aline Ordman in wonderful all new depictions of rural landscapes, still lifes and barnyard animals, accompanied by creative assemblage display.

This exhibit salutes the resilient farmers whose properties not only provide fresh, locally grown agricultural products but that also provide breathtaking views that no plein air painter can resist--peaceful fields and pastures dotted with handsome barns, blooming plants and grazing livestock, surrounded by New Hampshire's natural beauty. Arc Angel: Sculpture at The Fells
July 1 through October 11
9am-5pm daily

Explore the artistic impressions of sculptors George Sherwood and Stephen Kishel displayed throughout the beautiful grounds of The Fells and in the Shop.

Sherwood's sculpture incorporates space, time and the relationships between dynamic objects, the choreography of each piece governed by a set of basic movements with the wind providing an unpredictable element of improvisation. Wind speed and direction, shades of light, time of day, precipitation, and seasonal color interplay to transform the qualities of light and movement. See georgesherwood.com for more about Sherwood and his work.

Happy: Also on display on the grounds and in the Shop (open during Main House hours) are Kishel's environmentally friendly creations, unique expressions that are easy to live with and have the look and feel of floating forms and virtual weightlessness. For more about Stephen Kishel visit stephenkishel.com.
