Entertaining Visitors: From Parlor to Stage-Lake Sunapee's Musical Celebrities in the Gilded Age
Part of the 2008 History Series, "Hosting Our Summer Guests: The 1880s through the 1930s."

Fern Meyers, music scholar, lecturer and author specializing in the history of the Cornish Colony, brings us on a musical journey through the Gilded Age, depicting how life at Lake Sunapee was significant to the development of American music. A collaboration of The Fells; New London, Sunapee and Newbury Historical Societies; Lake Sunapee Protective association; and The New London Barn Playhouse. Meet at Newbury Town Office. Knee-High Nature: Insect Hide and Seek

Lauren Cole-Johnson teaches how protective coloration helps insects survive. Preschoolers learn through a puppet show and games, matching insects to their surroundings and searching for them in the wild. Dress for indoor and outdoor activities. Nip & Tuck: The Fells Old Garden Gets a Facelift

Join Fells Landscape Manager Jeff Good as he presents a slide show describing progress on the plan to return the Old Garden to its 1930s appearance. Followed by a walking tour of the Old Garden. Take an easy hike along the trails of The Fells and learn the differences between conifers and deciduous trees and how they prepare themselves for winter and handle climate changes. Christmas at The Fells Holiday Patron Party

Explore the magic of Christmas at The Fells! Be among the first to preview The Main House, decorated to the theme of Songs and Stories of Christmas. Delectable hors d'oeuvres, festive libations, lavish decorations and the good company of Fells supporters make this celebration a season's must! Jitney service available from Gatehouse parking lot to/from Main House. $80 per person includes return tour ticket. Now accepting reservations.

November 8-10 and 15-16, 10am-3pm
Christmas at The Fells: Songs and Stories of Christmas

Tour The Fells Main House at its best, lavishly decorated to the theme of Songs and Stories of Christmas. Teams of volunteers and professional decorators transform the Main House, on the National Register of Historic Places, into a festive holiday showcase. Visit The Shop where a fine selection of holiday gifts awaits the most discriminating buyer. Private tours, rentals and group discounts mid week, November 11 through November 14. Adults $15, children $5.

Christmas at The Fells for Kids
Children's Corner--Holiday Crafts from Nature

Drop off your child while you tour the Main House, decorated to the theme of Songs and Stories of Christmas. Children ages 5 and older create holiday ornaments, decorate cookies and enjoy sing-alongs and story telling. Free with purchase of $5 Christmas at The Fells tour ticket, or $5 per child.

Wild Harvest Arrangement

Botanical artist Mauli McDonald demonstrates her unique style of botanical design utilizing materials from the natural world ranging from fresh flowers to mosses, feathers, and antlers. Participants create their own wild harvest arrangement using native woodland materials from Mauli's Art Of Nature studio and shop. Meet at The Fells Gatehouse. Register by calling 603-763-4789 ext. 3. Limit 20. Members $20, non-members $25 (includes materials).
