History Calendar 2008

Partners Around Lake Sunapee (PALS) presents a series of programs and exhibits, Hosting Our Summer Guests: The 1880s through the 1930s, that explores guests and tourists in the region between 1880 and 1930, how they arrived, where they stayed and what they did while here. Funding for this series provided by the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation--Upper Valley Region.

The following programs and exhibit are hosted by The Fells.




Carriages: Thursday, January 31, 4-5pm (snow date February 7)
Grand Resort Hotels of the White Mountains: History, Architecture and Personalities with Professor Bryant F. Tolles. Meet at Newbury Town Office.
Fishing: Thursday, April 24, 4-5pm
Entertaining Visitors: Boarding Houses, Hotels, Cottages, and Fishing Camps on Lake Sunapee with Nancy Dutton. Meet at Newbury Town Office.
Music: Thursday, October 2, 4-5pm
From Parlor to Stage: Lake Sunapee's Musical Celebrities in the Gilded Age with Fern Meyers. Meet at Newbury Town Office.

Lakeside:

Saturday, May 24 through Monday, October 13
Exhibit: Summer Rest

Step back in time to an authentically decorated and furnished Victorian era hotel room and imagine yourself a summer guest at one of the grand hotels, inns, or boarding houses that once ringed Lake Sunapee. An accompanying photo exhibit highlights Lake Sunapee grand hotels of the period. The Fells Main House Roosevelt Bedroom, open during Main House hours, free with Fells admission.
