It offers a retelling of the facts leading to the Treaty with stories never before told, images from public and private collections and informative original research. Theodore Roosevelt, John Hay and the Balance of Power in Asia
President Roosevelt was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 for his work in the negotiations that led to the Treaty of Portsmouth, ending the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. John M. During Roosevelt's 1902 reelection campaign his visit to New Hampshire included a stay at The Fells. This exhibit examines the lasting contributions of these two men in U.S.-East Asian relations and is a permanent installation in the Roosevelt Bedroom of The Fells Main House.
